Family Like Care

The Four Pillars of SOS Family-like Care

Children should be able to grow up with their biological families. When a family experiences separation, or when children lose their parents, they are more likely to be abandoned, neglected, or abused.

At SOS Children's Villages, we provide family-like care for children who have lost parental care. They are cared for in a home where they live with an SOS mother, their siblings, and other children. Children receive total quality care until they are ready to live independently.

The Mother

An SOS mother lives with the children and takes care of every child’s needs while respecting where they came from–their culture, their family background, and their story.

The children have emotional need for a loving and caring mother, and the SOS mother is present at all times to provide this for her children.

The Village

SOS families live together in one village, and they support each other in raising the children. When they have this support, children can feel part of society and learn to participate actively.

The House

Every house shelters up to ten children. Every child lives in a unique, loving home where they can build bonds with their SOS mother and other children.

Brothers and Sisters

Family ties that grow naturally make children feel security and belongingness. Every child gets to live in a home with their biological and SOS siblings.
